Update from Trinket's foster mom 6/26/12:
Little Trinket (aka Tinkerbell) has been doing amazing since she moved in with her two foster dog brothers. Trinket is a pleasure to have in the house and respectful of all the house rules. She still loves going into her crate to catch some zzz's during the day.
We now have her walking with a backpack to help deter her prey drive on the walk. She no longer barks and growls at other dogs when we are walking. She will even ignore barking dogs along the fenceline when we walk. On the days we can't get out for a good walk she loves to walk on the treadmill. She hops on and waits for me to hit go and she GOES! She can easily go 45 minutes at 4.0 mph.
She is a very "big dog" in a petite, strong body. Trinket definitely has beagle in her and loves to hunt squirrel, birds, bugs and rabbits. She is also starting to learn that she cannot pull and chase them when on leash, but she still needs some work on that.
She is MUCH improved at meeting people, but does not do well around people who are afraid of dogs. She would benefit from having someone who can put in some miles with her each day or even give her a job. When she is walking with the backpack she allows calm children come up and rub her face and feed her treats.
Trinket was wandering for several days through a neighborhood, dragging a leash and sleeping on people's porches. Someone was able to catch her, and went to work finding someone to take this cutie in. It was a big surprise to everyone to find out that she is a little over a year old, not a little puppy.... she's just mini!
Trinket is still a little shy, but warms up quickly. She will do anything you ask for a treat, and loves playing with the other dogs. She bonds quickly, and will follow her person anywhere. To be most at ease, she will need a quieter household with less potential clammer and chaos, but we know the perfect home is out there. She will make someone a lovely friend, and promises not to take up much space!
Trinket has completed the PAWS program and that Huron Valley Women's Correctional Facility, a 10 week training program, where she learned everything she needs to receive her CGC! (Canine Good Citizen award - she will have to go through the test after completing the program).
