Hope is a 'Courtesy Listing' for Dr. Keilen at Grand Blanc Veterinary Hospital. The Buster Foundation is going to help screen potential homes for Hope.
Please read her story as written by Dr. Keilen:
On Monday, June 13, 2011, an injured dog was brought in to the Grand Blanc Veterinary Hospital by a man who was in great distress. He had just witnessed a van drive through his neighborhood with a dog chained to the bumper. As the van drove by his house, the dog slipped out of her collar and tumbled into his yard.
He perceived that the dog had been greatly injured so he brought her directly to our clinic. While the man was not in a position to assume financial responsibility for her he did desire that she be cared for.
When we first saw her, blood was all over her body so we admitted her to the hospital, loaded her onto the stretcher and took her to the treatment area. Examination of the dog revealed that the pads of her feet were torn off, her nails were ground down to the quick, and her body was covered in abrasions. Incredibly, as we examined and photographed her, she stood up and began wagging her tail, licking any hand that was close enough. She appeared to be only 2 or 3 years old but we noted old scars spread over her body.
Though she had no reason to trust anybody, she clearly relished the attention she was getting and wanted to give it right back! We realized she was a special case and started calling her Hope. We cleaned and treated her wounds and though the healing process has been slow she is doing remarkably well. Her attitude remains great throughout her ordeal. To date most of her wounds are healed leaving minimal scars on her feet and underside.
She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm tested. She is looking for a caring family or individual to provide the love and support that she had been lacking in her earlier life.
