4/15/07 Say hello to our girl Jade. Born 1/17/05 Jade is a beautiful light red and white spayed female. Jade initially came to us with her four other siblings when they were only a few weeks old, unable to stand and even to eat on their own. All of the pups were in horrific shape when they came to us, but grew up to be one of the most striking litters that Buster has rescued, each one being truly exemplary of what an American Pit Bull Terrier should be. Jade was surrendered back to us due to chronic urinary health issues that were in the beginning, not a problem for her owner - a police officer who happily adopted her knowing all her medical history. While in his "care" Jade was crated for 12 plus hour days without being able to get outside to urinate or drink enough water to keep her problem at bay. Her owner wouldn't even allow family members to go over and help him out by letting Jade out during his long work days! Jade returned to Buster covered with urine scald - and her once beautiful white chest and feet are now yellowed from hours spent laying in her own urine patiently waiting for her "dad" to come home. If he was just looking for a reason to be rid of Jade he could have returned her anytime for any reason as stated in his adoption contract. But he didn't want to do that because as he told us he "didn't want anyone else to have her" (his words, not ours!). According to her owner, Jade suffered with bladder stones/crystals the size of quarters. Our vets were unable to locate any stones or crystals. Poor patient Jade she has a sore spot on one hip that has no fur left.and the other hip is discolored dark brown from months of her urine soaking into her hair. When our vets examined her Jade had a urine ph of 9 and her bladder had thickened and was loaded with infection, this from a long standing untreated infection. She now needs expensive antibiotics and other medications to try and clear up her infection. Despite the neglect and her pain, (she is still showing blood in her urine), this sweet girl still manages to give you a cute little body wiggle and tail wag. Imagine allowing an animal that you professed to love live her life under that kind of blatant neglect! We at Buster are thankful that she is back with us and can finally be treated and nursed back to health. Our hope is to get Jade back to normal so we can again try and find her a forever home. Word has it that her police officer dad is getting another pit bull puppy - this time from a police officer colleague. Let's pray that doesn't happen! A word of advice to Jade's ex owner "what goes around surely comes around". Jade is now happy in foster care with plenty of foster siblings to play with. She is a gentle soul who loves other dogs and is wonderful with kids and adults.
